24th May 1918

Private George Henry Vince, Queen’s Own Oxfordshire Hussars, died of pneumonia at Cork Street Hospital, Dublin on 24th May 1918, aged 19. Born in Waterloo, Lancashire in 1898, he was the only child of parents Joseph (a commercial traveller) and Edith (née Stent) who had married in the Kings Norton district in 1897.

The family moved to Prenton, Birkenhead sometime between 1901-1911, moving to The Bungalow, Tanworth-in-Arden sometime between 1911-1918. It seems likely that they were still living in Prenton when George joined the Army, as he enlisted in Birkenhead.

Private George Henry Vince was buried at Tanworth-in-Arden, as were his mother and father who died in 1944 and 1945 respectively.
