Construction of Touchwood began in 1999 – 11 years after the idea of a new shopping centre was first publicly revealed, and seven years after it got the go ahead in February 1992. The shopping centre opened to the public on 5th September 2001.

On 4th January 1896, Geoffrey Arthur Martineau (1861-1934) and Jessie Clementina Madeley (1864-1947) were married at St Alphege Church, Solihull. The groom was a 34-year-old widower, listed as a manufacturer, whilst the bride was a 31-year old spinster, and the daughter of the late Charles Madeley JP (1829-1895), gentleman.

Her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, made six official visits to the Solihull Borough during her 70-year reign. There were other visits when she passed through the Borough, e.g. arriving at or leaving from Birmingham Airport, but there were only these six official visits, as far as we are aware.
