Tudor Grange Special School

Throughout December 2017, there was an exhibition in the Heritage Gallery on the first floor of The Core, Theatre Square, Solihull relating to Tudor Grange Special School, which provided residential and day accommodation for children with physically disabling conditions such as polio and cerebral palsy.

The exhibition featured photographs and information from the papers of the Evans family, who lived at the school, which was housed in Tudor Grange house, Solihull from 1949 until it relocated in 1976 to the purpose-built Swanswell School on the Langley School campus in Olton. Mr Robert Idwal (“Bob”) Evans (1916-1994) was the school’s first headteacher.

If you have any memories of Tudor Grange Special School (or of Swanswell School), we’d love it if you could share them with us, and with future generations. Please fill in our memory sheet (attached below), or email us with your memories.

The photos and memorabilia we have relating to the school have been kindly deposited with Solihull Libraries by members of the Evans family. Full details of the items available to view at The Core Library, Solihull are on our online catalogue, the Solihull Heritage Gateway.
