Private Harry Corbett, 14th Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment, was killed in action on 13th November 1916. He has no known grave, and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. One of eight children (two of whom had died by 1911), he was born in 1878 in Small Heath, Birmingham but moved to Olton with his parents, George and Elizabeth, and siblings sometime between 1881 and 1883.
Harry followed his father’s trade to became a carpenter before enlisting in the Army.We don’t know when he joined the Army but he didn’t serve overseas before 1916. By 1911, the family was living in Station Cottages, Olton and, in 1920, when his sister Reubenia applied for his war medals, the address was still Station Road, Olton.
Private Harry Corbett is commemorated on the war memorial at St Margaret’s Church, Olton.
