The war memorial at Hockley Heath lists only initials and surnames, and doesn’t include details of rank, regiment, or year of death. This can make it difficult to research the casualties in official records.
We’re struggling to identify some of the people named, and would be very grateful if anyone can give us any further details on the following:
- S Capewell
- G Hawkins
- J James
- H J Keel
- T Perkins
If you have any further information on any of these men, please let us know.

G. Hawkins was George Hawkins, a carter of Stratford Road, Hockley Heath – a March 1914 newspaper article mentions him, he was originally of Shropshire.
We will let you know more details when we have finished
Re H. J. Keel – we are certain he is the same man William Herbert Keel and named on at least 4 memorials, Dorridge, Knowle, Packwood and Hockley Heath Memorial (but not Church). Here is our page with details.
